Yes cameras are getting smaller but what about the drones? There’s no standard set for the size or design of drones, and the Army plans to use that to its advantage. Introducing the Black Hornet Nano.
I’s a a micro drone, designed by a firm in Norway called Prox Dynamics. This helicopter drone is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. It measures a small 4 x 1 inches and weighs only about as much as three sheets of paper. It features regular as well as thermal cameras and has a range of about 0.6 miles — in other words, it’s perfect for those missions that require stealth surveillance.
According to Defense One, the US Army has “a handful” of these drones in its possession, which it began testing back in March. But the British have used them much longer, since 2013. Each micro drone will set you back $40,000. It’s called the Black Hornet Nano, should you want to buy several.
